Every business needs a solid foundation and for Daryl McLachlan, that foundation was laid when he first picked up a concrete trowel at just 16 years old. What began as a teenage job soon became a lifelong passion, shaping a career that's spanned nearly five decades and thousands of driveways, paths, and projects across New Zealand.
From Humble Beginnings to a Trusted Christchurch Name
Daryl learned the ropes with Duncan Grey and Enterprise Homes, mastering his craft and building the skills that would later define his own company. Then, 28 years ago, he took the leap, starting IPave Concrete with just one team member, one truck, and a big vision: to deliver quality concreting with care, pride, and precision. What started small has now grown into one of Christchurch's most trusted concrete companies, built on reputation, relationships, and results.
Built on Loyalty, Strengthened by Experience
Over the years, Daryl has built not just projects but people.
Many of iPave's team members have been by his side for 15 to 20 years, a rare loyalty that reflects the company's culture of respect, teamwork, and craftsmanship. That same dedication was tested after the Christchurch earthquakes, when iPave played a key role in the city's rebuild, completing over 22,000 jobs in seven years and employing close to 100 staff during its busiest period.
Expanding Horizons
Never one to stand still, Daryl later expanded operations to Auckland, spotting a gap in the market. Today, iPave continues to run a skilled crew there, specialising in kerb and channel work for major civil companies and new developments.
A Family Business at Heart
At its core, iPave Concrete is and always will be a family business. Daryl's son Brook is part of the team, and the long-serving staff are considered family too. That shared pride and commitment flow through every job they do.
